Division of Rheumatology, Department of Internal Medicine, Tokyo Women’s Medical University School of Medicine is aiming to foster a physician scientist who have a wide range of knowledge in basic and clinical research of rheumatology and is able to plan, implement, and instruct a cutting-edge and high-quality research project. In basic research, students are encouraged to understand molecular mechanisms of systemic rheumatic diseases and to obtain ability to find a novel cause and/or mechanism of diseases. In clinical research, we request our students to understand clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, and garner a capability to find and publish novel evidence based on ethical and scientific research plan.
1. Basic research
・Molecular and immunological mechanism of preclinical stage of rheumatoid arthritis and strategy for prevention of disease onset
・Molecular immunopathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus
・Genetic study of ANCA-associated vasculitis
・Molecular mechanism of skin and organ fibrotsis in systemic sclerosis
・Mechanism of action of Jak inhibitors in rheumatoid arthritis
2. Clinical research
・A large-scale cohort study of rheumatoid arthritis (IORRA)
・Pharmacoepidemiological study of rheumatic diseases
・Pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric rheumatic diseases
・Diagnosis and treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus
・Clinical epidemiological study and clinical development of a novel molecular
targeted therapy of ANCA-associated vasculitis
・Diagnosis and treatment of systemic sclerosis
