About us

 The Department of Cardiology was established in 1955 as the internal medicine of the Heart Institute of Japan at Tokyo Women's Medical University and has been a leading role as a pioneer in cardiovascular clinical practice in Japan. Based on our philosophy,
 "Cardiology for Patients", we are not only simply providing advanced medical care, but also eagerly educating many cardiologists who can provide holistic medical care.
 One of the most distinctive features is the large number of cases. That is, the annual number of outpatients is about 70,000, and the total number of inpatients is about 30,000.
  We provided coronary angioplasty, catheter ablation, transcatheter aortic valve implantation, MitraClip, ICD or CRT for many patients with severe heart diseases. We are actively implementing cutting-edge drugs and non-drug therapies, as well as providing advanced evidence based on various cases.
 We will provide an ideal environment for medical education and research.

Research

 In addition to clinical research on ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, hypertension, and diagnostic imaging, we are also engaged in large-scale clinical research by cardiology departments and related facilities. We conducted prospective cohort studies and randomized trials of coronary artery disease and heart failure cases and strive to establish guidelines for cardiovascular disease in Japan. We are also actively conducting basic research based on clinical practice such as myocardial regeneration, cell immunology related to atherosclerosis, thrombo-coagulation system, and cardiomyocyte electrophysiology.
