The spirit which runs throughout Tokyo Women’s Medical University is one based on the philosophy of “faith and compassion”, a strong belief of our founder, and one that has been passed on for generations to our graduates, academic staff and current students.
Our principles and philosophy as an independent and private institution have made it possible for us to overcome various problems that we have faced over the years. We believe that the object of medicine and nursing is to promote the well-being of the general public, and we take pride in our patient-care system whereby all departments join together, making a comprehensive approach to diagnosis, treatment and care for the patient possible.
Our institution is continuously striving to become a leading “world medical center” and commit ourselves to enhancing the level of education, practice and research of our staff and students. Since the founding of our institution, more than 9000 women have graduated from our medical school and over 300 from our nursing department, and they continue to make progress in the fields of health care in institutions across Japan and overseas, by demonstrating their ability as professional women. The 21st century will make ever greater demands on those devoted to medicine as well as nursing and it is our hope to enhance the level and ability of our students so that they may continue to contribute to society in the most meaningful way.
