Aged Health Nursing

Gerontological nursing aims to respect the wishes of the elderly and assist them to age healthily in their own way. To this end, nurses are required to understand the needs of the elderly while maintaining their physical and life functions, and to respond in a predictive manner. In addition, family members are important to the elderly, and it is essential to include them in the nursing perspective. In addition, the ability to coordinate not only with medical care but also with health and welfare services is necessary. In order to acquire the practical skills to deal with these elderly people, students will study the process of physical and mental changes associated with aging and the diversity of its effects on their lives and will receive practical training in nursing care of the elderly at Tokyo Women's Medical University Hospital, hospitals specializing in the elderly, and core regional hospitals.
Gerontological nursing studies include exploration of the QOL of healthy elderly people, elderly people recuperating at home and problems of their families, and perioperative, rehabilitation, and end-of-life nursing.
