About us

Since its establishment in 1965, the Tokyo Women’s Medical University Institute of Gastroenterology has aimed to provide patient-centered medical care, train excellent clinicians, and conduct clinically relevant medical research. The medical trainee system was started the following year for post-graduate education, and the specialist physician training curriculum is a program based on this medical trainee system. It is generally a five-year program. After obtaining a board certification of Japan Surgical Society, students may opt to customize their training curriculum according to their individual goals and proficiency level. Also, students can choose to incorporate a doctoral course (graduate school) as one of their options. Additionally, physicians who have acquired board certification can be employed as specialist trainees, who may proceed to the doctoral course (graduate school). In either case, as part of training in clinical medicine related to gastrointestinal diseases, the graduate school also emphasizes cutting-edge research that is directly linked to clinical gastrointestinal surgery. We are looking for enthusiastic young people who will be responsible for gastroenterological surgery in the near future.
